Initially these large scale paintings were planned for a major public work in Milton Keynes. After the plan collapsed Tilson decided to continue with the works themselves producing 12 large scale paintings, numerous smaller canvases and works on paper. | These paintings concluded a series of works made in different media based on research carried out in the East Village neighbourhood of New York City. See The Terminator Line. The paintings were exhibited in the Conran Shop in Knightsbridge with the Contemporary Art Society and also at the John Moores exhibition in Liverpool. The title Dry Signals originates in the audio-visual world. A dry signal is an audio term for an untreated sound signal, a bare sound. The numerical sequence at the base of each painting refers to video-time-code which are used to assist the editing of films and videos. Hours, minutes, seconds and individual frames. |
