JAKE TILSON

Jake Tilson is an artist, graphic designer and author working in London. He has produced magazines conceived as collaborative artworks, notably ‘Cipher’, 1979-81 and ‘Atlas’, 1985-93. A pioneer of early website design his award winning website ‘The Cooker’ 1984, was featured in 'World Art Series - New Media in Late 20th Century Art', Thames & Hudson. A retrospective of his work, Investigations in Cities 1977-1997, was held at the Museo International de Electrografía in 1997. His cookbook, A Tale of 12 Kitchens, published in 2006, won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award and was shortlisted for both the Andre Simon Food & Drink Award and the Glenfiddich Food & Drink Award. In 2009 he exhibited with the Japanese artist Kyoichi Tsuzuki at The Wapping Project in ‘A Net of Eels’, commissioned by Film and Video Umbrella.

He travels widely, always aware of the objects and spaces that define everyday life, as well as their tastes, smells, sounds and graphic messages. He absorbs those thousands of minute signifiers that most people enjoy but take for granted, and which he uses to transform experience into art.

Jake is currently working on his second cookbook – about fish.
He is married to the Scottish ceramic artist Jennifer Lee.

From the exhibiton The Art of Intention

The space of terror and healing – beautiful Imbunches for a troubled time.

These new works of Dillwyn Smith’s were sewn together, piece by piece, bit by bit, one after the other.  When they start to work on our eyes, the first question that springs to mind is: has all the colour gone out of their world?
